BT Sport have today announced that UFC 239, featuring Jon Jones vs Thiago Santos, will be their first UFC PPV broadcast on BT Sport Box Office.
According to BT Sport’s press release on their website, “BT Sport Box Office has broadcast some of the finest pay-per-view boxing world title fights over the past 12 months, and UFC 239 will be the first PPV UFC event on the channel.”
UFC fans in the UK have up until now enjoyed every UFC card as part of their BT Sport subscription. Some would say that staying up until 7am to watch the likes of Jon Jones, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov was sacrifice enough, so to be asked to pay extra may be too much for some fans.
No price point has been announced however BT Sport are charging boxing fans £20 to watch Tyson Fury’s next fight so we would assume it will be the same for UFC 239 next month.
Ever since BT Sport took the UK & Ireland rights back from the short lived Eleven Sports, there were rumours that a handful of events would be on their Box Office channel. UFC 239 appears to be a toe in the water and we would expect UFC 242 to follow suit – being that a lightweight unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi means that it will be broadcast at primetime in the UK.
